Dave Aftandilian I have loved Dunn’s _Emergent Mind of the Pond_ project for decades now, and I am grateful to have a version of it available digitally, since I lost the CD long ago. I find this work to be a wonderful way to immerse listeners in an alien world that is actually our own world, and to use the wonder that results as a way to help them see/hear nature with fresh eyes/ears.

about

While any overt connections between angels and insects might seem tentative or suspicious, they are herein linked on sonic as well as philosophical levels. Beyond the aural qualities which they share, both works emerge from an ongoing curiosity about the phenomenon of communication in its broadest context, and as exemplified in my previous explorations into a variety of linkages between music, language, and environmental sound. As these works illustrate, this includes a wide range of human and non-human modes of language and thought selected for both their intrinsic uniqueness and physiological effects upon the listener. Obviously, these compositions address specific dichotomies (i.e., microcosm/macrocosm, natural/supernatural) but more importantly they are concerned with the human struggle to comprehend our position within the non-human universe and to touch the alien even when that otherness talks to us from within the boundaries of our own imaginations.
