about

ERRANT LIGHT (60:00)
2001
an electroacoustic composition for two-channel playback using visual graphic to sound conversion

Errant Light was generated from a large graphic image (see the cover page of these album notes) as interpreted by an image to sound software program. The upper drawing is the left channel and the lower is the right channel. The two drawings were rendered individually and assigned to separate audio channels. Time is the horizontal axis and frequency (for each drawing taken independently) is the vertical axis. Since the original graphics were very large, high-resolution images, very fine gradations between simple periodic sinewaves and dense noise textures were able to be created.
